Our Story
We began with the problem of how to easily find flavor combinations to use in creating a dish and matching drinks to the dish. Flavro was designed to make these tasks easier than reading books or doing multiple internet searches. Flavro 1.0 was created to make it easy to find or create a flavor combination, find a recipe that contains your flavor combo, and learn preparation techniques called for in the recipe.

Flavor pairing is not always easy.
The Expert Flavor Pairing tool in Flavro finds a flavor combo by searching on expert recommendations. You can also make your own flavor combos by using the social match tool that is based on the co-occurence of two foods in recipes stored in a large database, or you can use the molecular match tool that is based on the percentage of shared flavor molecules in food pairs; according to the Flavor Pairing theory, the more flavor molecules two foods have in common, the better the foods will taste together in a recipe. You can save and share your food compositions with family and friends.
Finding a beverage to make your food taste better.
Beverages do more than quench your thirst, provide nutrition, or satisfy your soul after a hard day’s work. For instance, some would argue that the essential purpose of wine is to make food taste better. In the Expert Drink Pairing tool in Flavro you can find various beverage pairings to compliment your meal or find food pairings that go best with your beverage of choice. In the Food Explorer section of the app, you can also search through our databases of wines and beers.
The world is your oyster.
Rare flavors can be found all over the world. We included a cuisine map of the world for you to explore local dishes that may inspire your flavor pairing or help you prepare for your next trip. Flavro also includes search tools for spices and dishes along with a collection of advanced preparation techniques.

My favorite was the world cuisine map, that really got me inspired since I have been teaching myself to cook Indian food and I found a recipe I want to try now, Lahori chicken (well that one is from Pakistan). It was cool to me because specifically I looked at North India to find regional dishes. The feature about offering recipes based on ingredients was cool. Good for when I have a couple of things in the fridge and want to use them up but don’t know how to make something good or different than I normally would. Overall, awesome experience!

The UX here is awesome - easy to digest and understand at first glance. The Food Explorer List presentation is outstanding and the concept is unique. The techniques section is super practical. This is something that I am always accessing via a Google search online. I love that you start high-level and broad with the ability to drill down a level. I also love the dynamic drop down for the cocktail ingredients.
